Audrey Road Residence
Audrey Road shows how thoughtful residential architecture can turn a compact Auckland site into a generous, sun-filled family home.
Designed for a couple with three teenage children, the home needed to support shared family life while still giving everyone room to retreat.
Open living areas connect to the pool, sunroom and outdoor spaces, creating a relaxed holiday feel within everyday life. A glazed double-height void brings light into the centre of the home, while helping connect the living spaces below with the bedrooms above.
Inside, the material palette adds warmth and calm. American oak flooring, stone-tiled bathrooms, fluted glass, Negresco quartzite and a floating timber stair give the home a refined, enduring feel without making it overly showy.
Outside, board-finished concrete, cedar and white plaster create a strong but natural exterior that sits comfortably in its Auckland setting.

That is why Phil Smith’s role is not only to design, but to guide. He helps clients move from early ideas and site constraints through to a clear architectural direction, balancing ambition, budget, lifestyle and long-term value.
Phil founded Smith Architects with a belief in creating beautiful human spaces, architecture that feels considered, purposeful and deeply connected to the people who use it.
As a Registered Architect in New Zealand and the UK, Phil brings international experience, award-winning design thinking and a practical understanding of how complex projects come together.
His time at Foster and Partners in London helped shape his view that great architecture should do more than look impressive. It should improve how people feel, move and live within a space.
Today, that thinking guides Smith Architects’ residential work across Auckland and beyond. Every home is approached with care, clarity and respect for the client, the site and the future life of the building.
